In an unexpected victory, Julien Sale of France won the Smart Infinity Philippine Open on his Asian Tour debut, edging out Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana and Japan’s Tomoyo Ikemura by one stroke. Despite a bogey on the final hole, Sale secured the win after Kaewkanjana and Ikemura made birdies, adding to the excitement. Sale's triumph occurred just a month after earning his tour card in Thailand.
The Masters Course at Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club had a par of 70, and Sale won with a score of 11 under. This is eight shots less than Micah Shin's winning score when the Asian Tour last visited in 2017, though both had a winning total of 269.
Sale led the tournament with 22 birdies, while Sadom had 20 and Ikemura had 17. Sale also performed well in other areas, ranking third in Putts per Green in Regulation (GIR) with 1.649, tied for fifth in GIR at 79.17%, 12th in Driving Distance with an average of 318.38 yards, 12th in Putts per Round at 28.5, and tied for 26th in Fairways Hit at 69.64%.
Ikemura had the fewest bogeys or worse, with only four bogeys.
Sadom, who led halfway through the tournament, ranked second in Putts per GIR with 1.642 and tied for eighth in Putts per Round with 28.25[10]. He also had a solid GIR percentage of 73.61%, ranking 13th. His 20 birdies were offset by six bogeys and two double bogeys. His other stats were: Driving Distance 296.38 yards (T39), Fairways Hit 66.07 (T38).
Ikemura, who led going into the final round, had the fewest bogeys or worse with four. His approach game was solid, ranking tied for eighth in GIR with 76.39%, and he ranked 13th in Putts per GIR with 1.709 and tied for eighth in Putts per Round with 28.25.
