ADT to break new ground in Africa with launch of Morocco Rising Stars

The Asian Development Tour (ADT) is set to make history by hosting events in North Africa for the first time this year, following the Asian Tour’s lead.

In June, two back-to-back tournaments named the Morocco Rising Stars Marrakech will take place in the lively and colorful city of Marrakech, marking the ADT’s debut on the African continent.

The first tournament will be held at Marrakech Samanah Golf Club from June 19 to 22, followed by the second event at Marrakech Al Maaden Golf Resort from June 26 to 29.

Both competitions will feature prize money of $125,000 each and will be co-sanctioned with the Arab Golf Federation (AGF) as part of a three-year partnership.

These tournaments will serve as a prelude to the International Series Morocco, scheduled from July 3 to 6 at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam’s Red Course in Rabat, the country’s capital.

Cho Minn Thant, the Asian Tour’s Commissioner and CEO, highlighted the significance of this step, noting that while the Asian Tour has frequently visited Morocco, this marks the ADT’s first foray into the region. He emphasized the collaborative efforts with local golf organizations and expressed optimism about nurturing emerging professional golfers. He also praised the two Marrakech venues, calling them exciting new additions for players to experience in one of the world’s most inspiring cities.

The Morocco Rising Stars Marrakech events represent a new and promising chapter for the ADT, opening doors to fresh opportunities.

Players competing in these two events will also have a chance to qualify for the International Series Morocco, with invitations extended to the top two performers on the combined money list who are not otherwise exempt.

Mustapha Zine, Vice President of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation, described the ADT’s arrival as a significant milestone for Moroccan professional golf. He emphasized that these tournaments not only provide an international competitive platform but also help local talent develop. He noted that including two Moroccan courses in the official tour calendar reflects the country’s strong golf infrastructure and growing golf community.

This initiative aligns with the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, who aims to establish Morocco as a global golf hub capable of hosting major tournaments and fostering the growth of Moroccan golfers.

Each tournament will feature 132 players, including 70 from the ADT, 40 nominated by the AGF, and several invited guests.
